Got Flash?

Ahoy! Flash can be a real eye-catcher for your web designs. Sure, you can purchase pre-canned Flash animations for your site, but why purchase a generic animation when you can create your own unique animation that nobody else is using? Let us help you realize your Flash dreams!

The animation above, which is only active when you move your mouse over the picture, is a simulation of water waves on two floating structures. It was created by combining a set of 18 waves, each with a random period varying from 2 to 7 seconds, and then adding their effects to the x and y position, as well as a rotation vector.

See our Flash Animation Package for more details.

SAMPLE: Video Carousel

Get Adobe Flash player

Description: This Flash application allows you to put your videos on a rotating carousel that your customers can select at will. Each video is represented by a small "thumbnail" picture that captures the essence of the video. In this particular example, you can get more information simply by hovering your mouse cursor over the thumbnail and looking at the associated movie poster.

You can have us customize this carousel to your liking. Perhaps you would like to change the background to look like an actual TV mounted on a wall. In any case, once we put the code on your website, you can add or change the displayed movie simply by putting the name of the movie into a special file.

Development Notes: When the Flash application starts up, it looks for a special "XML" file that lists all the movies as well as their related thumbnail and poster images. The number of movies is counted; the circular carousel is then divided up into an appropriate number of sections. Each section will receive a thumbnail image.

The carousel is modeled after an actual physical carousel, where its spin is the result of applied forces working against natural friction. When the mouse cursor is not within the carousel, a "bias" force is applied, causing the carousel to accelerate to a speed at which the frictional force exactly cancels out the bias force. When the cursor moves into the carousel section, it applies a force that is proportional to its distance from the center - the farther the distance from the center, the more force applied. The carousel has the physical property of momentum, so any change in speed or direction has to work against the rotational momentum of the carousel. In this sample, the friction was set pretty high, so the maximum speed of the carousel is quite slow; we can adjust the friction to any level, or elminiate friction altogether. (Elminating friction, however, will allow the carousel to spin with unlimited speed. Not very optimal!)

Development Time: About 4 hours to go from concept to finished and tested product. Admittedly, we started from a prototype that we'd already created, so total development time was quite low.

Package This Flash animation was developed using the Ruysdael Design Advanced Services Package, charging a total of 4 hours of development time.

Where deployed: Currently, this application is not deployed.
